A condition known as Mountain Dew Mouth is rampant in this part of the country. This region owes its fame to Mountain Dew primarily, according to dentists. Mountain Dew was invented in Tennessee and later sold to Pepsi-Cola in 1964.Ĭentral Appalachia is an area known for horrendous dental issues. Ever so sneakily, I kick the cases of Dew-trouble into a corner, and try to fill the cooler with bottled water and stevia drinks while luring a few unsuspecting kids over to the vegetable tray or the organic beef hot dog station (Oh, mom!).ġ) Dental Health ConcernsWhat’s My Beef With Mountain Dew Was Coke and 7-Up losing favor?Īs The Real Food Revivalist, I welcome those from all “dietary faiths” into my home, even those bearing the Grand Daddy of soda swill, Mountain Dew. The teens coming to my house for parties were bringing in cases of Mountain Dew for their contribution to the “snack pot luck” along with their typical MSG chips and high fructose corn syrup cookies. They were originally purchased in Kentucky, but they’re supposedly available here and there around the US.I recognized a disturbing trend a few years ago. These were actually given to a friend who gave them to me (who I then gave to a friend, so they’re really making the rounds). You can find her website here: Īs for the Hard Mountain Dew, it’s been hit-or-miss where you can find it. She’s a talented author that has quite a lot of published works. Anyway, my thanks to Judy for writing this up. It certainly does look flat in that glass. We’ll see if any of the others end up better. Overall, I definitely wouldn’t try this one again. There’s not an overly heavy flavor of alcohol, which is nice, but it really tastes like cough syrup, especially with the carbonation vanishing so quickly. It’s not a particularly enjoyable sensation, I have to admit. The drink almost seems syrup-y in that it coated my entire mouth in the flavor of sweetener. The scent, like I mentioned, is very sweetener heavy and at the first sip, that’s all I can taste. It fizzes a lot and then actually turns quite flat after that, so I’d suggest probably drinking straight from the can if you want to keep that fizzy goodness. That kind of neon green meets yellow color you expect. There is an almost overwhelming smell of aspartame or some other sweetener.įor the pour, it’s pretty close to a traditional Dew color. ![]() Opening it up, I was a little disappointed that it didn’t immediately smell like Mountain Dew. Interestingly enough, besides being hard, these also are zero sugar. I’m staring out with the main version that mimics the Original Recipe Mountain Dew. Hey everyone! As such, if I were to try these, the review would read something like, “Taking a sip, I EEEUGHAHAHAWOGHAHAAAA!” And that’s not really useful for anyone. Everything to me tastes like a straight shot of that aforementioned moonshine, even something like wine coolers elicit a pretty strong response. This is also a special review because it’s the first ever guest post on the blog. So, making a Hard Dew is actually taking it back to its original roots. Mountain Dew was originally the name for a mixer for moonshine. Yes, they came out with official Hard Mountain Dew flavors. What makes it so special?
